Pros: What do you like about 2006 Kia Spectra?
It's the best car I ever owned.
I've got close to 200,000 km and it's still running like a dream. Of course, maintenance is very important. One little drawback was replacing the timing belt...no easy task, so the backyard mechanic may have a bit of a hard time doing it..better take it to a regular mechanic for that.
My particular model is the spectra 5. It has the power windows, a/c, cruise, auto tranny and hatchback. Lots of room, lots of power. Absolutely no problems with the exhaust either; must be made of stainless.
Cons: How would you improve 2006 Kia Spectra?
Not much I can say here...I've had zero problems with it so why change a good thing??

2006 Kia Spectra Review:
I have had nothing but problems with this car since I drove it off of the lot. The sales man lied and said I was getting the full deal with all of the bells and whistles and the dang thing doesn't have all of that.
I have had to replace the headlights five times and still counting. Three times on the passenger side alone.
The hose to the water shooters broke and when I took it to the dealership to have it worked on the service manager told me it was not covered under warranty and it was going to cost me 100.00. (dude I work with warranties I know what is covered and what is not!) that was in the first year of having the car.
Three week after buy the car the light cover fell off the door panel.
The front struts are out and now I just found out I have to go and buy a special tool to replace the brakes on this car.
So if you want to call this piece of crap a car then you have never owned a FORD!!!!!! I will never buy another Kia and will never recommend a Kia to a friend or family. But since the hunk of junk has no trade in value is there any recalls that I need to know about? Look when you type Kia in to the computer it highlights it cause it is wrong. LOL

It was a very cheap car and you do get a little more than you paid for.
Stock stereo system is good and very spacious inside.
Good gas mileage. Had a 1996 Honda Accord before this [known for great gas mileage] and this matches the MPG.
Cons: How would you improve 2006 Kia Spectra?
I have the stick shift and shifting into different gears is a little jumpy, would like it a little more smoother.

Overall, can't really complain. Have always been a Honda person and NEVER a Kia, but with the low mileage and the price I stepped out of my comfort zone and went for it. I have had it for 2 months, so far so good. The reviews about the transmission going out so early scares me, but mine has 32000 miles on it and everything under the hood is perfect so far.

I bought a 2006 Kia Spectra I loved it at first, but I have had nothing but problems with the car. First the transmission went out, then the struts had to be replaced, the check engine light keeps coming on and off, but Kia keeps telling me that I cant bring the car in only when the engine light is on. My dash board rattles. I payed a lot of extra money for all the warranties and bumper to bumper, but the warranties don't cover most of this. For getting a brand new car there has been more problems than I had with my old car.

I would never ever buy a car from Kia ever ever again, they have went through more service managers and they all say the opposite from each other. I get the run around from all of them. I have been treated so horribly by Kia employees they should shut down the Kia dealership in grand junction Colorado.

So now I own a car that has all kinds of problems and is a lemon, I was lied to from the Kia employees to buy all the extra warranties, that they still don't cover anything, just so they could make more money and rip off there customers!!!! I would like to know what I could do about this???? But I am sure I won't get any response back just like the Kia dealer ship in grandjunction.

Pros: What do you like about 2006 Kia Spectra?
I have the basic Spectra Ex - no power seats, fog lights or cruise control. It currently has 28,000 miles - I drive a lot in the course of my job. I live in Western Washington and travel frequently over two mountain passes that can present some challenges in the winter. The car handles them without a problem - and has made me a supporter of Goodyear tires. It holds it's speed going up hills, has plenty of power when passing other vehicles and gets 35 to 40 mpg depending on how I'm driving it. I'm a short person - 5'- and find the car adapts readily to my shorter height. It is also roomy and comfortable for my daughter-in-law - all 6'2" of her. I'm also an avid sea kayaker and transport my kayak on my car. I have the traditional roof mount system to carry the kayak and for additional safety secure it front and rear to the undercarriage of my car. The car handles this additional "package" very well. I get minimal wind effects from passing 18 wheelers, and never have any concern about them blowing my kayak of the car. I would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for comfort, good mileage and a classy looking car at a reasonable price.

I can't offer any suggestions. I still find it hard to believe that I have a car that handles as well as this one does.

2006 Kia Spectra Review:
I am generally very pleased with my 2006 Spectra. It had more features than any other car I looked at in my price range. It is very quiet and economical. It rides like a larger car. I had to have the transmission replaced at 28,000 miles, but because of the excellent warranty, it was free. I only worry about the fact that the transmission went out so early. Could have been just bad luck. I hope it is not an ongoing problem. The interior is masterfully set up and all controls are easy to reach and manage.

The Kia Spectra5 is a fun little car. Lots of great features including alloy rims, extra-wide low profile Goodyear radials, 4-wheel disc brakes and much more.
Cons: How would you improve 2006 Kia Spectra?
The 2007 interior is a little nicer. The upholstery material on the seats of the 2006 Spectra5 is not up to par with the rest of the car.

fun to drive,and the deal was unreal. My first Korean car,quality seems close to the japanese,but still tinyer,but lot less money.Ive got under 500 mi,hope its a good long term econo car in our family

I bought the SX with the stick shift,needs a sportier shift and a 6th speed. Revs way too high on highway speeds of 70

its a 3rd car in our family.the Kia dealer gave me a great deal.IT LOOKs good with the alloys and spoiler and havent put gas in it yet.IVE GOT LESS THAN 400 MILES ON IT.So far I like it,I'll definately write a review again in 6 months
