Pros: What do you like about 2008 BMW X5?
Impressive engineering.
Everything works according to the instructions.
I actually like the iDrive and I find it quite easy to navigate through the functions.
I also like the overall ergonomics, voice recognition, iPhone integration, heated seats, and feel of the vehicle.
Of course the drive is very sporty/aggressive but it is also a great cruising vehicle.
Also, I've read a lot of complaints about the MPG's but at 7000 mi, I am averaging 26 MPG (HWY@60MPH) and am very pleased. I will note that I am a very conservative driver.
The adjusting auto tailgate is also very nice.
Cons: How would you improve 2008 BMW X5?
I would like to see more voice controls as they are limited on the entertainment side.
City gas mileage could be better as I am averaging about 17 MPG and am a very conservative driver.
Dual driver / passenger sun visors would be a plus along with audio controls and head phones for rear passengers.
Also better audio controls (a mid range is needed) and a rear sub woofer would be nice.
2008 BMW X5 Review:
This is a very nice vehicle. This vehicle has lots of technology as well as refinement. I did a lot of research prior to purchasing and could not be happier. I looked at the Touareg, ML 350, Q5, and Lexus 350. VW's warranty was a major issue for me as who in their right mind would buy a $50k vehicle with a 3 year warranty? The Lexus is a very nice vehicle but still a tad bit too girly for me. It does offer a lot of very nice technological advances and the ride was better than the BMW. The Mercedes was nice but not as sporty. The Q5 is nice but the interior styling was not for me. The X5 provided the best of the above and the vehicle warranty cannot be matched. Also the residual value is quite impressive. Although there are a lot of complaints about the iDrive, I actually find it very easy to navigate. One really has to spend about an hour learning the system. The ride quality is very good but not as smooth as the Mercedes or Lexus but I wanted a more sporty drive and this is a very fun SAV to drive. Also, I will add that minus the Touareg, this vehicle seems to have a bit of toughness to it. I would not feel comfortable taking a Lexus off road but the X5 seems to handle the off road very well. The bottom line for me was that I took well over 4 months to research and look at the competition thus I knew exactly what I was getting. I am very pleased.

BMW needs to address the extreme tire wear issues. The center tread wears no matter the pressure. I'm sure the problem is dynamic. We had to replace all 4 tires at 15,000 miles. BMW also replaced the computer module at 16,600 miles. I'm 6'2" and have trouble getting in and out of the front seat. The ride is rough.
2008 BMW X5 Review:
My wife still likes the car. I probably never will, and can't wait for the high maintenance bills. Beware the salesmen. In todays economy you will not get a BMW to drive while your car is in the shop.

2008 BMW X5 Review:
I had a 2004 X5(3.0) for 4 years and I loved it. I just got a new 2008 X5(3.0) for a month and I simply hated the 2008 model.

idrive system is unreliable and bmw doesn't know how to repair it
2008 BMW X5 Review:
we have had numerous problems with this car. thank goodness it is still under warranty because thousands of dollars would have been wasted. our x5 is less than a year old and has been in the shop 7-8 times. would not reccommend to anyone especially for the price.
